Admin Topbar

Once you are logged in to the back-end, you will see quite a few things that may be new.  Let’s start from the top and work our way down.

First, notice the dark grey bar at the top of each page in the back-end. You will also see it on top of the webpages on your website if you navigate to the front-end of your website and you are logged in. This is the Admin Topbar. It will have links back to your dashboard, a counter for new comments (if enabled), and several other features of the website depending on plugins installed. On the right hand side it will have your login name. You can click on your name to log out and peform other administrative tasks. For advanced users, this may also display drop down links to multiple sites to which you may have WordPress back-end access.

In the sample picture above, notice that the name of this website is “dev_platform”, this is just a placeholder. The speech bubble icon gives a live update of comments submitted to your website. The “new” button gives you quick access to adding new contents like posts, pages or media.
